RAY'S REFLECTIONS:
Visits to the Club: By August 18, 1997, half the clubs had their official visits. The number of noteworthy projects is astounding in variety and participation of Rotarians! I am able to mention just a few. Ottawa Sunrise participated in a Walk for Cancer that raised about $65,000 in the community, of which $1,760.00 came from the Ottawa Sunrise Club and was not in their budget. Machesney Park has a "Taste of the Town" dining card project to benefit local charities. Sandwich continues using its trailer for selling refreshments at its antique events. Belvidere is considering an odiferous cow-chip contest. Walnut contributed considerably to buy a parakeet cage for Walnut Manor Nursing Home. Princeton holds a special monthly round table for make-ups. Marseilles is considering support for the I.M. Canal Project. Dixon has planted trees and the traditional-color petunias.
Many clubs are missing out on singing, alas, but some did pretty well in presenting RI President Glen Kinross' "Show Rotary Cares" song. Membership and attendance are concerns for all clubs. More younger people need to be recruited. One caution in attendance: the Manual of Procedure specifies that 60% of the meeting time must be attended for credit to be given. Signing in and departing would not be acceptable for credit. Clubs enliven their meetings with fines, contests, and jokes. Food is universally good, especially when prepared by groups in small communities. Governor's representatives have been at most of the meetings and some have participated in discussions with officers and board members.
Most clubs need to ready their archives for future anniversary purposes, and these come around rapidly. Printed budgets and bulletins or newsletters are useful for this purpose as well as for general club purposes. Some 30 clubs, at least, have newsletters but not all are reaching the D.G. as requested. Most clubs do well on local projects but could increase attention to international projects. Press on with your year's work. The remaining club visits are now being anticipated!
ROTARY FOUNDATION REPORT; DISTRICT 6420
Period: July 1, 1996 through June 30, 1997
Prepared by Fred R. Houlton
Rotary District 6420 contributed a total of $190,820.35 to the Rotary Foundation during the 1996-97 year which represents an average giving of $69.00 per member. The General Contributions amounted to $96,184.79; the Restricted Giving, $5,542.34; and the Endowment & Related Giving, $89,093.22.
The ranking for all of our district=s clubs as per capita giving for the 1996-97 year is shown below in the statistics. The figures at the right of each club indicate the support of Rotary Foundation during the six preceding years (the first figure represents the quarter position in the district for 1995-96; the second figure, 1994-95; the third figure, 1993-94; the fourth figure, 1992-93; the fifth figure, 1991-92; and the sixth figure, 1990-91). A Number One represents a top-quarter position, and the Number Four Figure represents a bottom-quarter position.
The top three clubs for 1996-97 will all receive banners from Rotary International for their excellent support. The top three most-improved club s will also receive banners from R.I.; we will receive notification about these clubs sometime in the future. The banners will presented to the winning clubs at the Mid-Year Meeting in December. On behalf of the 1996-97 Governor, Charles Engel, and the District Foundation Committee and Foundation Promotion Committee, I would like to congratulate our district members on their very good support of Rotary Foundation during this past year. We had set a modest goal for General Giving of $80,000; we achieved 120.2 percent of that goal. Everyone can feel extremely proud of the accomplishments of Rotary Foundation support which fosters goodwill, peace, and better understanding in the world!
